Prescription Drugs Abuse
Prescription Drugs are those that are obtained on prescription from your doctor.

There are three main types of prescription drugs that people get addicted to.

The first type contains opioids such as morphine and codeine, which are used mainly for pain relief. The second are sedative or tranquilizer drugs such as valium, which sedate and promote sleep. Stimulants are the third type of prescription drugs, which includes drugs such as Ritalin, which is used to treat Attention Deficit Disorder.

Prescription Drugs Abuse

Prescription drugs should be used as specified by the prescribing doctor. Unused drugs should be discarded, and not given to friends or family members for symptom relief.

Prolonged use leads to tolerance, which causes the user to take larger amounts of the drug to get the some effect or 'high'.

The overuse of prescription drugs can lead to psychological and physical dependence, or addiction.

As a result of dependence, the drug has to be taken regularly to prevent withdrawal symptoms developing. Even when the drug has not been taken for a while, people who are addicted often get cravings for the drug. This is because their bodies have become dependent on the drug to function normally.
