Non-Prescription Drugs Abuse
Non-Prescription Drugs are those that are obtained without a prescription from a doctor, or which have no known medical value.

There are three main types of non-prescription drugs that have potential for abuse.

The first are opioid drugs such as heroin and methodone. The second are hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD, "magic mushrooms", and marijuana. The third are stimulant drugs such as Ice, Ecstasy and Cocaine which stimulate the central nervous system.

Prolonged use leads to tolerance, which causes the user to take larger amounts of the drug to get the some effect or 'high.

Dependence or addiction could also develop with prolonged use.

As a result of dependence, the drug has to be taken regularly to prevent withdrawal symptoms developing.

Even when the drug has not been taken for a while, people who are addicted often get cravings for the drug.

This is because their bodies have become dependent on the drug to function normally.
